JG, while I don't remember the "ice box" (we had 'lectrical cold boxes) I certainly remember the term, in my house the rounded box with a GE logo on it that plugged into the wall and needed manual

defrosting and had built in egg holders on the door, was called an Ice Box by my parental units and thus by us kids.
