Monday, September 9, 2013, 12:17:45 PM- Well, that was exciting....
The nice thing about working nights is that I can still go see my better half on Sunday night and not worry about lack of sleep at work. That being said, last night I headed over to her place for dinner and some together time. We had a nice late night dinner (it's nice living 30 minutes from a college town where stuff is open 24/7), stopped to pick up some treats for her dogs and headed back to her house. We had just pulled into her drive when her phone rings....it's her neighbors from 2 doors down asking if everything was ok. They said they had heard what sounded like gunfire and then the sound of a truck driving off. She explained that we had just got home and had no idea what was happening, but to give us time to put the doggy bag in the 'fridge and we'd head over. Not 3 minutes later, the dogs go ape-shit. I look out the living room window and there's someone standing in her yard by her truck. I walk out to see who the hell it is and find some poor Mexican guy covered in blood and asking for help. Asked him what was wrong and he tells me one of the neighbors assaulted him. I'm dialing 9-1-1 while my g/f goes to get a towel to try to stop the bleeding...found out the guy had a 2 inch gash in the top of his head. Get the emergency dispatcher and tell them I need EMT's and police at xxxx ******* Drive, there has been an assault and the injured party had come to this house asking for help (he had seen us pull in, so he knew there was someone home and awake). Dispatcher sends out the call to the sheriffs department and then transfers me over to Emergency medical services....the conversation with the EMS dispatcher went something like this...

Dispatcher: What is your emergency?

Me: I have a guy here that's been beaten or shot....he's bleeding profusely from an open head wound.

Dispatcher: You need to use a clean cloth and apply pressure to the wound.

Me: Already doing that.

Dispatcher: Is the victim awake?

Me: Yes...he's sitting on the tailgate of my truck holding a towel on his head.

This is where the conversation went waaaaay out thataway >>>>>>>>>. The dispatcher says I need to stay on the phone until the EMT's arrive. Ok, no problem. The next words out of his mouth....no lie......"Do not use a tourniquet to stop the bleeding."

Uh....just how in the holy fuck would I use a tourniquet to stop a scalp wound from bleeding to begin with? What was he expecting me to do, wrap a belt around the poor kids neck to constrict the jugular and carotid? Be aware people....idiots like that may have to save you one day!

Anyway, deputies and EMS arrive, the guy gets loaded into an ambulance after talking to the cops and then we get to watch his assailant get arrested. Seems the assailant knew the victim, called him and asked him to come to his house and then proceeded to beat the crap out of him and his truck with a tire iron. It all revolved around the assailant thinking the victim was screwing around with his wife....gotta love these illicit love triangles!

That was an interesting 2 1/2 hours....how was everyone else's weekend?

Sunday, August 18, 2013, 9:03:36 PM- grrrrrrr Part 2
Got the deck off the mower....yep, the right blade is bent as hell....and so is the spindle it bolts too. One week old and I've already had to buy almost $200 worth of parts for this mower....because of course, the blades and spindles aren't covered under warranty.

At least everything comes apart easily.....now lets see how long it takes UPS to get a part from Greensboro to New Bern. I can drive it in 6 hours....5 if I have a radar detector in the car wink

"4 days joey. The bastards shipped it via the mail, not UPS as promised :/

On the bright side, I replaced the spindle, put a new belt on and the damn mower works great now!"

Someone at Tractor Supply forgot to level the deck on my new mower when they assembled it at the store. Found a slight high spot on my lawn....now I have a bent blade and a huge divot chewed out of the turf :/

Doubly shitty....I bought the damn thing from a store 70 miles from here, so now I get to replace the blade and re-level the damn deck. Ya just can't get good customer service nowadays....

Monday, August 12, 2013, 6:17:04 PM- Redneck Christmas in August.....
After two weeks of not being able to mow the lawn, I finally found the belt I needed for my lawn tractor....at a Tractor Supply store 60 freakin' miles from my house. Went to go get the damn thing and asked the guy about other available spare parts, only to find out that MTD/Cub Cadet is slowly phasing out replacement parts for my 1999 model tractor. Ok, I know how to fix this.....

....I'll just buy a new one. At least they'll make spare parts for it for the next decade. Had to post pics of my new toy tongue

Yep....I'm a happy redneck....especially since the new Cub has a wider deck and runs faster. I cut my lawn mowing time down by almost 30 minutes!

Sunday, August 4, 2013, 2:33:34 PM- From the continuing Puppyman saga.......
I have come to the conclusion that mankind in general is worthless. I was sitting around the house yesterday being lazy and shooting the breeze via phone with our favorite long haul trucker/storyteller Tux when I kept noticing my lab Moose wandering out and sniffing my mailbox. Curiosity finally got the best of me, so I went out to check the mail and see what had Moose so fascinated.....and I find this......

This poor little guy was curled up next to my mailbox looking frightened. I was afraid that he had been hit by a car, but when I said hi and held out a hand for him to sniff, he got up, walked to me and wagged his tail. OK, I have a lost pup to help (my apologies Tux for having to get off the phone). Called my girlfriend to let her know and then sent her a photo so she could get him posted on Facebook to see if anyone recognized him. She calls me back and tells me that a friend of ours would be happy to adopt him as a playmate for his rat terrier Dudley. I grab a quick shower and bundle little man into the truck for a trip to Washington. I get to her house and find that our friend had already arrived and was waiting to meet the new pup (I say pup, he's actually about 7 years old from examining, but he's a little rascal). We take little man over to the friends house...and he and Dudley the rat terrier get along great! Four hours after someone dumped him at my door, little man ( now named Beau) has a new home and a playmate. Here he is after he discovered that sofas are really comfortable....

I love it when stuff works out better than planned.....but I still think whoever dumped him is a worthless sack of shit that deserves to die in ways that would make Satan queasy.....
