Two ways, you can add a name to your 'block list' or you can block someone from the list of options on their profile. When clowns spam your inbox, ignoring isn't enough.

Block list is halfway down 'Your NN' tab at the top left - on desktop.

The newest features are pretty sophisticated, you can choose to block just pics, or whatever. It’s a sad thing that it’s needed by some.
