Two years ago, Poohbare, the Spawn and I had decided to do some traveling and have what we dubbed "The Summer of Zoos." We'd found a bunch that were within a day's drive and started making plans. I ended up needing surgery that June, so we postponed the plans. Last year we once again started planning "The Summer of Zoos." What happens? More surgery for me. yippee!

Spawn reminded us of recently that we never did follow through on this. Oops. With opening the shop, Mom's health, this, that, and the other, it had slipped our minds.

So.... a couple weeks ago we went to one that's pretty close and last weekend we took Spawn and her boyfriend to a biggun about 5 hours away. Since school starts next week, we've changed the title to "The Fortnight of Zoos." Not quite as expansive, but better than nothing, right?

Anyway... I think we walked close to ten miles on Sunday. I'm still hobbling around like an elderly woman and my hip sockets feel crunchy! Poohbare keeps giggling at me and says all I need is kabuki makeup and a kimono to make the image complete. grrr

"a fortnight of zoos is certainly better than nothing...may not be the "Summer of Zoos" planned, but hey, plans do go awry. My memories of zoos, all of them, and I've been to many, is the ENDLESS WALKING!!!!"

Thank heavens for 24-hour grocery stores. Apparently I was done sleeping at 3 a.m. By 4 a.m. I'd run out of quiet tasks to do around the house and decided to grab the list and hit the store.

At that hour, you see interesting folks at the store, to say the least. It entertains me. smile

Yeah...so.... it's totally against my will and not to my liking at all, but I'm getting my first smartphone this week. I dread it. I LIKE my flip phone, dammit!

I held out on even getting my first cell phone until '08. The only reason I got one then is because I was going through a divorce and the kids needed to be able to reach me when I was commuting to/from work. I've had my current flip phone for three years, dropped it numerous times, and though it looks a little scuffed, it still works great. It makes calls, sends texts and takes pics. That's truly all I want in a cell phone.

But... with the shop's security system I need to be able to tap into the cameras when we're out of town. I need GPS so we don't get lost as often. I need to be able to find addresses and phone numbers to places we're going (cuz we invariably leave our notes at home).

*sigh* The worst part: I'm gonna have to ask the Spawn to teach me how to use the dang thing. Nothing good can come of this.

Pouting,
HP

Speaking of hair, I was scratching Poohbare's back this morning and suddenly stopped to look closer.... He used to have one area on his back where the hair did NOT grow, due to where his old desk chair rubbed. That spot is now filling in.

Oh how I giggled! Him, not so much. Which made me giggle even more.

Monday, July 29, 2013, 2:54:42 PM- wow, man, that's deep!
While in the midst of banging my head against the wall this morning, I remembered some wisdom passed along through the caregiver group I'm in. It applies to so many situations I thought I'd share.

We cannot allow ourselves to look back on past events and second guess decisions made at that time. When viewed with hindsight, we have access to information that we did not have at the time we made a decision. It is unfair to judge ourselves in that false light. All any of us can do is make the choices that seem best at THIS moment. Looking back, while educational, is otherwise pointless and serves no purpose.

I'm taking an ornery 81 year old with Alzheimer's to her new doctor this morning. We're going to be dealing with a new doctor, a new location, new office staff, etc. These are difficult for Mom to handle. I'm deploying every coping technique in my arsenal.

If anyone needs the addy for an absolutely fantastic on-line caregiver support group, pm me.

Hugs,
HP

Ow ow ow ow ow

Poohbare and I took the spawn and her boyfriend to the zoo yesterday. Four hours of walking around is far more than I'm used to doing.

Feeling fairly old and creaky this morning, but it was a fun day and the weather was sunny with a cool breeze -- in other words: perfect!

If Spawn's boyfriend gets the ok, we're taking them on a 3 day road trip next week... cuz we're gluttons for punishment, apparently. lol

Hugs,

While I hate the mall, I had to chuckle when I noticed the accessory shop next to Cinnabon is called "Icing."
