Changing subject slightly but I get annoyed with the generation that thinks we should respect them because of their age. If there's one thing I've learnt in this life, it's you have to EARN respect.

I hear ya! I work in retail, there's not one day that goes by when someone is not rude, but I always greet them with a smile and a hello, and usually I wish them a good day..
