A little about one special veteran, my brother. He was retired U.S. Navy 21+ years. Thanks for your service. He was a consummate professional, always striving for perfection on every ship he served on. One of his Commanding Officers even said when something went wrong they would ask specifically for him to solve the problem. Quite a compliment.


This song took on special meaning after learning that my older brother was dying. It took on an even more special meaning when we learned that he went sky diving. He didn't want to tell anyone (other than his wife and his oldest grandson), in case he chickened out. His stepson was a former member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne.

Here is a photo taken from the 1986 movie "Top Gun" which was filmed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise CVN65. My brother was an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class when this film was shot on board.

This is one of the aircraft elevators that he was responsible for.

He was a voracious reader and very intelligent. One of his favorite shows was "Jeopardy!"

After he retired from the U.S. Navy, he wanted to return to the "Little Apple", Manhattan Kansas to continue his education. Within a year of arriving, he landed a job at the University as an electrician for their Housing and Dining Services. He was able to attend classes and was able to enjoy the KSU athletics (especially the football team). After the results of yesterdays games (#1 Alabama lost & #2 K-State won), when the new BCS rankings came out tonight, 11-11-2012, K-State has reached #1 in the BCS ranking for the 1st time in the school's history. This would have made his birthday (Monday 11-12) something he would NEVER forget. I know he is smiling and so happy at this. I only wish he was here to witness this firsthand for himself.
