Saturday, October 19, 2013, 1:08:21 AM- Random thoughts while sewing
I usually have Directv on the swing/big band music channel for Mom during the day. She maintains she can't hear it, so today I decided to flip it over to classic rock.

I found myself singing along to America's "Horse With No Name" when I realized the song has some of the dumbest lyrics ever written.

Metallica came on, which stopped me in my tracks. Metallica counts as classic? Then I listened to which song it was, thought back to when it came out and ... huh ... over 20 years ago. Yeah, it counts.

While pressing seams open, "In A Gadda Da Vida" came on and I was singing along highly amused cuz my mom is sitting in the other room with this blasting. It seemed kinda wrong, yet made me grin.

I suffered through Credence, but when Hendrix came on I flipped the channel back to swing/big band. It's nice soothing background music for getting stuff done.

So.... the second night on Cymbalta went substantially better. I woke at my usual 3 a.m., but was alert and not foggy-headed. Yay! Woulda been nice to sleep a bit longer, but clear-headed trumps woozy, so I'll take it. I'm using the Xanax sparingly. I think a total of one pill in four days counts as "sparingly." smile

I've been working on my sewing projects at the dining room table which is kind of a pain digging everything out and putting it away repeatedly, so I decided I needed to set up a table in the spare bedroom. I started pricing various items and they are so not worth the money. Screw that. I wandered around Home Depot for a bit and -- TA-DAH! -- came home with a two-pack of adjustable sawhorses and a 4-foot section of laminate countertop. I don't need pretty. I need functional. While I was there I picked up some parts I need to fix the kitchen faucet. I'm feeling pretty Bob-the-Builder-y today. smile

Hugs,
HP

So.... the Spawn's birthday was a success. Thank you for the many kind birthday wishes. I've passed them along.

In other news, I saw the doc the other day about a variety of issues. He's put me on .25 mg of Xanax to help with the anxiety troubles that have cropped up dealing with Mom. I took half a pill yesterday and it made a huge difference.

He also started me on Cymbalta for the arthritis and chronic back pain. I sustained a compression fracture at T12 about 24 years back and since then have had two lumbar surgeries and a fusion in my neck, so I'm pretty stiff and sore most of the time. Since Cymbalta is first and foremost an anti-depressant, I waited til bedtime to take the first dose. Thank God I did. Holy shit! That stuff kicked my ass! I woke several times during the night and was well aware of how xxxxxx I was just before I passed out again. I swear, I haven't been that wasted since my misspent youth. Ugh. Not fun. I've been up for an hour now and am sooooo ready for a nap. lol

Foggy hugs,
HP

Geez, I've been busy! I've been working on a rather large sewing project off and on for about a month now and am less than half finished. It's temporarily on hold while I make a costume for the Spawn. She wanted a Victorian era thingydo (steampunk, whatever that is) complete with bustier, long coat and skirt with pleated ruffle. I've only used sewing patterns three times before so it's a bit of a challenge. I've got the bustier done (it LOOKED like the easiest part - HA! - LIES!) and it turned okayish. Whew! I'll be tackling the coat tomorrow and (fingers crossed) get it knocked out and be able to start on the skirt by the weekend. I really want to get back to my other project, but this needs to take priority in case she needs it for a Halloween party.

If it's actually wearable when it's done, I'll try to remember to post some pics of it here.

Hope all of you are doing well.

Hugs,
HP

Cats are jerks. Yeah, I said it.

I usually wake up around 3:30 - 4:00 a.m. The cats want out. Okey dokey. I let 'em out. They generally hang out in the back yard. Dunno what got into Herbie today. He took off for parts unknown. Didn't come home for about 11 hours. Jerk.

Oh, and the other cat, Spike, sees me all upset this morning wandering around looking for Herbie so he comes down the driveway and does his best impression of Lassie's "Timmy fell into the well!" He's running past me, meowing, running a few more steps, looking back and meowing. Me, like an idiot, follow him. He scampers across the street bit by bit... til he gets to the yard then starts eating grass. No help at all. Jerk.

When Herb finally got home, I'm all over him, hugging and crying and he's acting like a 13-year-old boy being fussed over by his mom in front of his buddies. The look on his face clearly said "Mom! Staaaaahp!" Jerk.

So, as noted, cats are jerks.

The Spawn is now a licensed driver. She aced her driving test today, parallel parking and all! WOOHOO!

She'll be driving Mom's former car. It's perfect for a new driver seeing as it's pre-dented and such. Three cheers for higher insurance rates! Huzzah! tongue
